Tips for Muslimah to be organised at home

Allah’s Messenger  said, “Cleanliness is half of Faith,” so goes a hadith of Prophet Muhammad SAWS. This does not only relate to cleanliness in personal hygiene but being clean in every aspect of our lives.

Muslims should have the highest standard of cleanliness and personal hygiene of all the people in the world. But, it is highly regrettable that the heap of garbage has become an identity of Muslim homes and localities. The Muslim majority areas are marked with unhygienic and unhealthy conditions.

A cluttered desk is a cluttered mind” and its so true. This is especially true for Muslimah after marriage . Piles of clothing stacked on chairs, the toys hidden under the couch, the shabby drawers are common sightings in our homes.

It affects our productivity in the following ways

  1. It affects our peace of mind so much so that we start losing focus in our obligatory worship.
  2. It can lower the Iman to the point of taking away the khushoo’ in your salaah, your mind aimed at the mess surrounding your place of prayer
  3. we become irritable and spouses get affected too which ultimately affects oursleves and relation with children ,spouse etc.

Being a Muslimah you have many responsibilities like that of a slave of Allah ,wife, daughter, mother, daughter in law, household chores, daawah, learning, business or work ,social life etc. Handling all of them can be burdensome. Hence here we apply Pareto Efficicency, which is also known as 20/80 Principle. It means putting 20 percent effort and achieving 80 percent result; however the trick in 20/80 principle is to focus on the right 20 percent of things to get right 80 percent of result. This principle is being used through our series so that we achieve the best in this world and herafter. Aameen. I have also been struggling through all these things and hence I did a lot of research on this to improve myself.  Inshallah it could be of help to you too. So here I shall share some tips on how to be more productive and organised  at home as a Muslimah

  • Remember magic word Subhanallah, Alhamdulillah, Allahuakbar. As you know this well known Hadith that FAtima(R.A) would work very hard and had no servant. When she once came to Prophet Muhammad( SAWS) silently enquiring about slaves . He responded by saying   Shall I not teach you something better than what you asked for? When you go to your bed, magnify Allah thirty-four times, glorify Him thirty-three times and praise Him thirty-three times. That is better for you than a servant.””
    [Sahih Al-Bukhari: 3502 and Muslim: 2727]
  • Have Intention to organise and work at home to please Allah Inshaallah. You may reap awards for the same in this world and herafter. Aameen.
  • Start with a healthy breakfast. Pay attention to your health. If your health is not good ,rest all other points fail
  • Have a bullet diary to write down your activities for the day. Use stickers on fridge, drawers etc to know the day when they are up for cleaning.
  • Fix time for everything ,otherwise you shall find yourself completing only 1 task the whole day like cleaning wardrobe while your laundry, vessels are just left scattered
  • Prioritise your work in terms of Urgent, Important, Can be done.
  • A stitch in time saves 9. Follow it .Urgently attend to small work which may later become a huge task for you.
  • Better not to delay it tomorrow that which you can do today.
  • Let everything have its home. Like suddenly my spouse asks me where is that tool or especially keys? Searching for things wastes time. So no matter how tired or lazy you feel let things go back to its proper place
  • Tidy up things as you move especially if you have small kids.
  • Delegate work. Involve your kids and spouse in cleaning activities . Instill cleanliness in your kids from childhood and explain them though Hadith and Quran. Give them household activities as per age.
  • Have a nice smell at home
  • Keep your bathroom clean which is place of wudu. Have a nice clean area delegated for place of worship.
  • Use space savers and handly equipment to organise stuff at home. Like the Cups and saucer empty box could be used to keep your jewellery or earrings. For purses you can use bathroom rings to hang them etc. Have dividers for arranging as well as baskets for shabby items
  • Whenever you run out of any item in grocery immediately write down in any shopping app or else you shall forget it when you go out for grocery shopping.
  • Keep first aid and medicines updated.
  • Give time to get beautify yourselves. Especially before weekend . Apply some beauty pack or change in hairstyle, accessories etc. A women is rewarded for even trying to get beautiful for her husband Inshaallah.
  • Have some leisure time doing something you like . For eg reading a book ,blog, chatting with friends etc.
  • Duaa:
    Abu Hurairah narrated that:
Fatimah came to the Prophet (ﷺ), asking him for a servant. So he (ﷺ) said to her: “Say: ‘O Allah, Lord of the Seven Heavens and the Lord of the Magnificent Throne, our Lord, and the Lord of everything, Revealer of the Tawrah, the Injil, and the Quran, Splitter of the seed-grain and the date-stone, I seek refuge in You from the evil of everything that You are holding by the forelock, You are the First, for there is nothing above You, and You are the Last, for there is nothing after you. And you are az-Zahir, for there is nothing above you. And you are Al-Batin, for there is nothing below You. Relieve me from debt, and enrich me from poverty (Allāhumma rabbas samāwātis-sab`i wa rabbal-`arshil-`aẓīm, rabbana, wa rabba kulli shai’in, munzilat-Tawrāti wal-Injīli wal-Qur’ān, fāliqal-habbi wan-nawā, a`ūdhu bika min sharri kulli shai’in anta ākhidhun bināṣiyatihi, antal-awwalu falaisa qablaka shai’un, wa antal-ākhiru falaisa ba`daka shai’un, wa antaẓ-ẓāhiru falaisa fawqaka shai’un, wa antal-bāṭinu falaisa dūnaka shai’un, iqḍi `anni-daina wa aghnini minal-faqr).”
